The Universe Is Smiling: Share Your Courage

Monika's weekly inner voice drawings:

Q: What is today's wisdom?
A: "Keep your fears to yourself, but share your courage."

  1. A very good friend of mine, let’s call her Monika, has shared these little tidbits about her teacher; specifically, things that he had shared over the years she spent with him. She may think I didn’t pay her anecdotes much mind, which in fact is both true and not true. I listened very carefully (mindfully) and yet took them to heart *and thus with not much mind :)

One thing he said was, “Why do people in the West feel they have to share everything?” Simple question, right? Well, the words are simple but the very luminous mind that shared them was referring to the entire opus of Buddhist thought. Well, that’s my take on it, anyway. And I’ll give you a little explanation as to why I see this as true. In Tibetan medicine (in which Tibetan Buddhists have adopted), for example, there are approximately 32 constituents in herbal remedies for thousands of afflictions. Why thirty-two and not one? Well, simply, Tibetan physicians intuitively knew that our body/minds emit biophotons, that is, light. And these biophotons, which represent a communication network of regulating activity (interconnectedness!), are found in all living cells and --literally!-- express functional states that we equate with health and well-being. When we are spiritually awakened, we say that we “see the light.” Well, the body, in a state of balance and harmony, also sees the light. In fact, mind and body are inseparable: both ARE the field of light AS consciousness.

So, what the Tibetan physicians realized was that the vibrational aspects of the combined 32 – no more, no less-- plant constituents communicated with body/mind, in such a way, as to draw out the body/mind’s energy to help it heal itself! You see, the body/mind IS consciousness, is manifested light. By UNDERSTANDING this, the Tibetan physician communicates directly with consciousness or, as we would conventionally say, is able to cure the patient.

So, what in the cosmos does this have to do with my friend, Monika’s teacher asking, “Why do people in the West feel they have to share everything?” Well, this teacher understood mind’s afflictions and how to communicate with mind, in such a way, as to draw out the mind’s ability to free itself from all negative afflictive emotion: what is called, am awakened state. He knew, for example, that so-called “sharing everything”-- meaning foisting all your negativity onto to others—actually perpetuates negativity and creates obscurations (blockages of light!) in mind, in the same way the Tibetan physician knew that regulating the bodies elements creates health. To focus on the light of consciousness, for example, means to focus on compassion and wisdom, and that clarity will fulfill mind’s nature state of clarity.

What it all comes down to is balance, from the most complex to the most simple. Monika’s drawing here speaks to me of that balance. Irrespective of the shapes and the ostensible asymmetry composing these forms, if we allow our perceptions and hearts to just feel the totality of this drawing, we cannot help but to feel a sense of peace, wellness, and love. Now, if I were only able to convey that in a few words like her beautiful teacher, I would be…I would be…hmm….Ah, I would be well!
