Monika's weekly inner voice drawings:
This morning I was on the phone with a friend of mine, who is on a semi-retreat in Bodhgaya where the Buddha is believed to have attained enlightenment. While my friend described the quietude and meditative energy around him, I started this drawing, opening myself to the flow of positive energy and asking the question:
Q: What is the message from Bodhgaya?
A:"When at last, in a single flash, you attain full realization, you will only be realizing the Buddha-nature which has been with you all the time."
- Huang-Po
"You can search throughout the entire universe for someone who is more deserving of your love and affection than you are yourself, and that person is not to be found anywhere. You yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe deserve your love and affection."

"You can search throughout the entire universe for someone who is more deserving of your love and affection than you are yourself, and that person is not to be found anywhere. You yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe deserve your love and affection."
- Buddha
The message is that we are all pregnant with being and love and so being love is our basic nature. That love is both an unfolding of wisdom (understanding), as the scroll-like appendage from the meditator’s head reveals; and a seeing, as depicted in the radiant gaze of the meditator. But, seeing is not a mere visual perception; it is, as I said, a mindful, attentive gaze of intention to get behind the wall of deluded thinking wherein lies truth playfully peeking. And so, we sit everyday, with consistency, earnestness, openness, and persistence, in one silent, loving, pregnant pause. It’s like another child waiting to be born.
ReplyDeleteGREAT! I am happy that you mentioned the scroll. I had posted the image on the INNER VOICE VILLAGE on FACEBOOk and got wonderful, enlightening comments but nobody mentioned the scroll. The fact that the image was connected with a phone call to Bodhgaya, felt like "channeling" some old Buddhist message, like a wisdom that was written in the old scriptures, and what else could it be about - ultimately - than about the Buddha-nature?!
ReplyDeleteI also very much relate to your comment about "perception". Very well put: "the attentive gaze of intention to get behind the wall of deluded thinking wherein lies truth playfully peeking."
Let's keep peeking - playfully :)
