What’s the secret to happiness? What’s the key to love? How to achieve freedom? Monika’s wisdom drawings know that the first step is to have a friend to guide us. Why? Because wisdom, which leads to the understanding that will help us realize happiness, loy, and freedom, is rooted in relationship. Indeed, relationship is the teacher, teaching, and knowledge learned. It walks with us throughout life, like a bird in hand, or, like a bird perched on our shoulder, who reminds us as to the directionality of our journey. And so, we have this playful visual reminder of our fundamental nature (it’s always playful for Monika who takes her play seriously :) and Wei Wu Wei’s instruction manual. “Pack your bags,” which translates into sort out mind’s issues. “Go to the station,” or seek guidance. And, some time later when wisdom takes its place at the table, head off on your journey, the “station” of life, live fully (in play!) with your knowledge, and the self or ego that served you well (even as she weighed you down), will stay behind. For, who needs self when in flight?
Paul, I just thought about it today that a lot of my drawings consist of at least two beings in communication, so a lot of the wisdom comes from an exchange rather than from lone insight - relationships all over again :)
What I liked in this drawing was the posture of the main figure which reminded me of a rebellious adolescent with his pants too big and ill fitting but with a stubborn conviction born out of the bliss of ignorance combined with daring - and then there suddenly is the Zen bird that puts a different spin on all his undertakings.
In any event, there luckily happens to be a jojo that saves the situation from becoming too serious - and yes (you're funny Clifford) give me that mug of 'Railtrail Pale Ale' and - to be concomitant to the corollary note - let my hair grow into green spikes and "I will find my own way to heaven" :)

ReplyDeleteA very cool image, Monika. I like coming up with corollary quotes:
ReplyDelete"Give me a parrot, a yo-yo, and a mug of beer and I will find my own way to heaven."
Clifford, corollary man
