The Universe Is Smiling: Broadening One's Horizon

Monika's weekly inner voice drawings:

Q: What is today's healing power?
A: Seeing reality clearly and uniting one's personal will with cosmic purpose. Even though life may be hard and tedious at the moment, heart and mind are open to great possibilities.

  1. Monika, thank you for this radiant drawing. It’s not a coincidence that this drawing’s geometric ground is a triangle. There is a solidity in faith, in the knowing that one’s commitment to his or her spiritual practice, with the aim of understanding the ultimate nature of reality, will engender happiness. I love this triangle. It reminds me of Shel Siverstein’s `The Giving Tree.’ Though ostensibly the giving appears as a pathological form of accommodation, on a deeper spiritual level, the dissolution of the tree in the given is exactly what compassion means. In compassion, we empty ourselves out into the humanity with the aim of alleviating suffering. We give of ourselves and that is the cosmic purpose. This is the great possibility and that which allows us to tolerate hardship. What I love most about this drawing is that it is the visual expression of what Buddhism calls `Emptiness.’ Though the beings to the right appear outside the triangle, if you look closely they are inseparable from the triangle. In fact, they constitute all the elements that compose the triangle. And so, on the more surface level, the triangle is feeding them; but, on a deeper level, they are all one fused web of being.

  2. Now that you mention the triangle I thought more about it. Looking back at the drawing it seems that there are actually two triangles which seem to complement/inform each other and thus become the two building blocks for a "square" yin & yang symbol. A change of pace - getting out of the round and becoming square :)
